Club History

Aberystwyth Exiles were formed in October 2012 by James Naik, a former student of Aberystwyth University. Naik formed the club with fellow former student Robin Street with the intention of creating a Saturday football team.

Both Naik and Street had connections to Aberystwyth having studied there and in particular the Aberystwyth University Digs League, having played for We Hate Ben FC and Punjabi FC respectively. Using these connections they started to recruit players with the intention of joining a local league, but due to the time of year decided to join the Gol Monday 7-a-side league.

After two seasons where the club struggled to make it’s mark, it was decided the club would move to 5-a-side at the same venue, which it continues to do so to this day, which is still run by Street.

During the 7’s seasons, many players with Aberystwyth connections and not played a part and made up the basis of the team that joined the Cardiff Combination League for the season 2013/14 and were placed in Division Two.

Connections to Aberystwyth

Although the club is not limited to players formally of Aberystwyth, there has and is a large contingent of players with connections to the town and it’s football clubs both in the Welsh Pyramid and part of the university. The club has strong connections to both the student-based Aberystwyth University Digs League and to Aberystwyth Town FC.

Aberystwyth Football 7’s Tournament

On an annual basis the club also enters a team in the Aberystwyth 7-a-side tournement held in May. So far, the team has been involved in the 2014, 2015 and 2016 events.
