1sts Lose in Shock Defeat
Aberystwyth Exiles 1sts succumbed to defeat against a spirited Cathays United side but were mostly the makers of their own downfall due to poor performance and errors.
Exiles, playing their first league match since October 2015, went down 1-0 due to poor defending in the first-half but never really got going and never looked like winning the game. Exiles did have chances, notably from Will Eastwood who blazed over the bar from close, but in truth really lacked their usual incisive play and struggled against a physical team on a poor pitch.
In the second-half a poor back-pass was cleared into an onrushing attacking player and rolled into the net and when Exiles did finally score through Eastwood, they then were deflated again by controversial penalty decision which had looked to be outside the area, although the foul was never in doubt. At 3-1 down and late on, Eastwood lobbed a second over the Cathays ‘keeper but in truth it was too late and point would have masked just how poor the side had been.
Exiles will have to drastically improve next week against Splott Park Rangers in order to get back to winning ways.
